Sandra Coleman has been an art educator for the past 38 years and has taught and guided hundreds of students in their Visual Arts practice. During this time, she has also pursued her own art making, ranging from ceramics to printmaking and in recent years, pastel and oil painting. Sandra has a degree in Visual Arts from Sydney University and has also completed numerous intensive art courses at the National Art School in Sydney.
Sandra has had several joint exhibitions both in the Blue Mountains, where she lives, and in Sydney. She has recently retired to concentrate on painting full time.
Sandraโs work varies from the real to the imagined and particularly enjoys the genre of still-life where she arranges compositions, using photographs to guide her work. Composition and lighting are key principles that are the focus of her work. The result are works that reflect contemporary times and, unlike abstract works which can confuse or confront the viewer, her still-life paintings create a mood of calmness and quiet reflection.
