Artwork Description

Adaption was created with 2 other paintings with black backgrounds and bright colours. It was created from a photograph I took at the Butterfly House at the Melbourne Zoo. Butterflies adapt to their environment to survive in the world. Their beautiful wings are not just for flying, but are also used for mimicry. Since butterflies can't fly in very cold weather, they use strategies like hibernation, and migration to warm up and get out of the cold. Many of us can relate to adapting for different environments whether it is how you feel you should behave or how you are told to behave.

Artist Bio

Sandra has been painting since the age of 11, when she started painting classes after school. It was a love affair that has lasted for over 30 years. After concentrating on art and photography in high school, she then went on to study Art & Design for 5 years, earning an Advanced Certificate of Art and Design, and a Bachelor of Arts (Graphic Design). Working for many years as a Graphic Designer, she has also continually sold her paintings in her spare time. Since the beginning of 2019, she decided to take her passion more seriously and practice everyday, became a member of MAVA (Melbourne and Victorian Artists), and regularly exhibits in exhibitions. Sandra enjoys experimenting with materials, styles and techniques, but always comes back to Acrylic on canvas. She creates realism, abstract and lately in-between with her underwater jellyfish themes. She is looking forward to continually growing and evolving as a painter. You can view more of her work through her website and social media pages.
