It was my daughters wedding celebrated on a small charter ship on the Brisbane river. Queensland Australia.. It was the night of the annual fireworks, At 9pm. the fireworks erupted into the pitch black night..I love fireworks .. I stood , my face upturned,, oohing and aaghing along with the rest of the wedding guests.
Later in my studio I wondered how I could replicate the joy of the night.
I built up the centre of the canvas, in a circle about 17 centimetres round, and one centimeter high like a volcano, then made radiating raised lines outwards the edges of the canvas, with a product , mixed with glue. then put a few more coats of glue to make sure it was cement hard.. what fun experimentation is. Then I painted it with a car chrome paint in dark dark blue. I had to work fast now. while this was still wet I dropped teaspoonfuls of white and gold into the wet blue colour.. then blew each drop to smithereens through a straw.. I kept circling the piece. dropping the droplets of white and gold and blowing through the straw, till I was hyperventilating with lack of oxygen, and I was completely happy with the piece.. whoopee.. I sprawled out on the bed to catch my breath. supremely happy and gulping for air.
after three days and it was completely dry. I donned my hazard chemical mask, goggles , gloves and long sleeves, and mixed the chemicals to the resin, and again working frantically, I applied the resin.
So with love, and a lot of sweat and passion, I entrust my fireworks piece to you. Do not sit it over a fireplace or where air conditioning is constantly flowing onto it, It would look spectacular;art with some lighting onto it.
