Artwork Description

From my many trips to Japan and Tokyo, I bought this pair of underwear from Don Quijote's store in Ginza back in 2009 when i needed a replacement pair. After a drunken night in Chiba, seeing how sex sells there for cheap, and thinking about the Women who live there, I used a deep red pigment to show the bleeding from the underwear symbolising the effort that Women need to go to, to fit in with the male dominated culture. The jewellery represents the gifts and oversized clitoris, whilst the shoes represents the shoes left by the door. I cannot tell you how many men I've upset with this piece, and how many Women it has delighted.

Artist Bio

Sara Elizabeth Joyce has lived many lives: Cyber Security Engineer, Senate Candidate, Writer, Poet, Filmmaker, Resin Artist, and Production Designer.

A self described cat-loving lesbian trans woman, she’s also a target shooter, passionate advocate for the homeless, and former press officer for both the Pirate Party and the Science Party.

Sara’s heritage is uniquely Australian and Irish from the time of the First Fleet, Indian from the pre-separation era, and German-Jewish from before World War II.
