‘The Getting of Wisdom’ Is a still life study of the native pincushion Hakea flower captured in the afternoon light. I’ve always had a love of nature, and nature offers an endless array of subject matter on every street in my neighbourhood. These Hakea are from my neighbours verge garden, picked and painted during covid lockdown when I was reluctant to stray too far from the house. I’ve found since beginning this series of botanicals that I have gained a great sensitivity and awareness to the world immediately around me. I’m tuned in to the changing of the seasons, just in simply and keenly observing what is in flower, and what is about to flower. In these times of upheaval and uncertainty this connection to the nature, and to the simple but ever constant passing of time has been a strong grounding influence. ‘The Getting of Wisdom’ refers both to this realisation, and to the lessons that each and every painting teaches me about my practice.
This painting comes framed in a Tasmanian oak float frame, and it’s vivid colour palette, and bold pattern is sure to add life to any space.
