Artwork Description

This painting is an homage to the story of the creation of the blackest tulip - the Scherer Tulip. A tulip which represents a story of immense patience and perseverance in botanical engineering. As I painted this tulip, I could appreciate the nuances of colour that can be discovered in the black, especially the deepest purples and navy.

Artist Bio

Welcome to my Bluethumb page!

It's great to see you here! I am currently out of Australia, so I have marked my art as unavailable until I return in mid July. When I return I will be reinstating my available art as well as hopefully lots of new creations made on my sabbatical.

In the mean time, feel free to read more about my practice, drop me a line or check out my website and social media platforms.

I am a constantly evolving artist with a desire to bring excellence, authenticity and taste to everything I create. I float between botanical studies, to portraiture, to collage, to surrealism, to human figures, to narrative and figurative landscapes. I paint, I draw, I collage, I think, I dream, I ponder, I create.

And I try not to limit myself to one style, subject or theme, because, you know, there's just so much to explore and only one life in which to do it!

Feel free to read my official bio below and have a look at my CV, but truly, I hope my art just speaks for itself.
I have other examples of my work on my website www.sarahfrostart.com.au

Sarah is an award-winning artist based in North West of Sydney. Her versatility of technique, deep exploration of themes and theory, and confidence with various mediums is evident in the authenticity and clarity of her work. Sarah has been a finalist in numerous prestigious awards and was the recipient of the James Gleeson Surrealism Award, a category of the 2018 Fisher's Ghost Art Award.

Sarah's paintings, drawings and collage combine a focus on portraiture and figurative imagery with an exploration of the connection between the tangible and the intangible. She aims to capture and translate the mood, atmosphere and imagery of dreams and subconscious nostalgia and the connection to identity.

A study of botanical subjects and still life object with the flavours of yester-year are a recent area of study, with a focus on traditional techniques and homage to her Dutch ancestry.

All of these areas of exploration and varied techniques make Sarah a multidisciplinary artist with wide areas of interest.
