This painting follows my genre of contemporary realism in which I capture evocative moments and the corporeal aesthetic defined by deep contrasts mixed with soft transitional tones. 'A Bloom of Dappled Lace' is part of my series of paintings involving the collaboration of figurative and a handheld fan, with each piece emulating a particular feeling or message. I aim to evoke curiosity behind my subjects, through the use of a carefully composed scene that captures the intricate light and shadow play. In this particular painting, I wanted to capture the moonlight light shining through the windows during the night. While the frequency and severity have reduced in recent years, I used to frequently experience bouts of insomnia. Sometimes during these hours, I leave the bedroom and sit on the lounge, not doing anything in particular but just observing the things around me. I particularly had a quiet appreciation for the aesthetic of the moonlight coming in through my windows and wanted to capture its rather soothing beauty in this painting.
