Sascha’s practice includes exploring & photographing the landscape. The Sunshine Coast hinterland inspires her work, which is deeply rooted in the experience of living in the mountains, the rainforest and rolling green hills. It is the trees, rocks, and foliage of the rainforest in which she lives that particularly capture her eye. She spends time in her garden studio curating collections of bird’s nests, leaves, lichen, fungi, and river stones. Sketches emerge from a process of reflection which is then expressed as detailed still life or abstract paintings.
Her abstract paintings are intuitive, inspired by memories of ancient places, the Australian landscape, and natural life forms. These paintings are simultaneously a deep exploration of the earth and the cosmos as expressed through colour, pattern and form.
Sascha also enjoys painting still life, her subject ranging from fruit and foliage to pottery, and selected pieces of antique crockery. She also loves to draw with pen and ink particularly of interiors but also in the rainforest.
