This work shows the tram passing through the 1930βs streets of Ashfield, overlaying the warm, vibrant colours of how I perceive Ashfield now, in the 21st century. My Nanna remembers catching the tram to visit my Great, Great Grandad, travelling through Ashfield to get to the city passing the buildings that have changed and the ones that are still there. The streetscape is drawn in pastels and charcoals, materials that are fragile, can be smudged, and are not permanent. If they are erased, they still leave a mark. To me this connects to the idea of the trams disappearing from the streets, buildings being demolished, and the faded grandeur of older buildings.
