Family has been a strong influence on Sean’s artistic journey.
As a young child, Sean was introduced to Art by his Grandparents who excelled in pottery, painting and guitar making.
A keen waterman, Sean spent the majority of his young life surfing, windsurfing and diving along the coast of Western Australia. This experience brought him close to the sea, estuaries and natural landscapes. He went on to develop a fascination for the interrelationship of the WA landscape and endemic wildlife both above and below the waterline.
His love of nature has drawn him to photography and painting birdlife and landscapes. Sean seeks out the patterns, symmetry and irregularities of line, form and depth in the natural world.
A keen Naturaliste, Sean studies mainly the birdlife of WA and is particularly intrigued by the migratory waders that transverse the globe. He journeys deep into the forests of the South West around Bluff Knoll, Albany, Denmark and Walpole to photograph and collect reference material for painting.
More recently Sean spends family time around the Yallingup and Contos coastal areas interpreting the colour and contours of the South West. He seeks out the subtle changes, moods and idiosynchrasies of the landscape throughout the seasons.
Sean believes that enthusiasm for the creative expression of Nature is good for well being because it brings us closer to who we really are, where we come from and how we belong. It draws us to the importance of the Natural environment and our place in it.
