Imposed Rhapsody

Through stream of conciousness this artwork muddled itself into completion.
The night spoke; As saxophones blurted frantic limericks and trumpets squeaked with precision to the last breath. Against the grain of the rhythm a cigarette flame burns uninterrupted. Drinks swell in cups clambering over the edge attaching to the safe haven of the sticky squelching concrete floors. The desperation and scrambling life clutches to the border of the piece echoing its groove in dissonance.
All of the excitement, the loneliness and abandonment all crammed into one small fishbowl looking for a path to redemption. Much like an improvisation, all is fleeting, coming and going. Is it ever enough?

sebstroke is a Sydney based multidisciplinary artist working primarily in painting and mixed media. Born in Bogotá, his work is shaped by themes of displacement, identity, and the persistent search for meaning within absurdity.

His practice explores existential tension and fleeting moments of beauty. Figures distort, forms fragment, and gestures repeat. Rather than offering fixed narratives, his work invites reflection and quiet confrontation.

Working with acrylic, gouache, soft pastel, and mixed media in general, sebstroke builds layered compositions through gesture, abrasion, and accumulation. There is a constant push and pull between vulnerability and control, structure and collapse.

Alongside painting, he develops sculptural and light based installations, expanding his exploration of presence, fragmentation, and perception.

Each piece is an attempt to capture brief flashes of clarity within the noise. Moments that feel fragile, but deliberate.
