I’m Sepideh Foroutan, a passionate scientist-artist! I am a cancer researcher with a Ph.D. in the field, and also an avid painter. My dual passion for science and art helps to infuse creativity into both aspects of my life, enabling me to perceive science through an artistic lens.
In my scientific work, I explore the fascinating world of cells, especially in the context of cancer research. I find beauty in the complex structures of molecules and the interactions between cells in their unique environments. I understand that receiving a cancer diagnosis can be incredibly overwhelming, bringing along a mix of emotions like fear and sadness. Adjusting to this new reality takes time and can be really tough.
That’s where my art comes in. I create paintings inspired by the science behind different conditions and treatments. My goal is to bridge the gap between science and emotions, helping patients understand their diseases better and find hope amidst their pain. Through science communication and the power of art, I strive to change patients’ perspectives about their conditions, showing them the beauty in the science that surrounds them.
In addition to my scientific pursuits, I also paint about life’s broader themes – from immigration to women’s rights and love. I hope my art can bring comfort and understanding to those going through difficult times. If you ever want to chat about art, science, or anything else, don’t hesitate to reach out!
