Artwork Description

Cherry Waves captures a moment of quiet surrender — a figure standing knee-deep in water beneath a vast, star-scattered sky. The scene is simple, but emotionally charged: a lone body facing the unknown, suspended between the pull of the tide and the immensity above.

I paint figures from behind to invite the viewer to step into the scene rather than observe it. Here, the ocean becomes a threshold — a place of reflection, risk, and release. The dotted night sky reads like drifting thoughts or distant possibilities, while the soft, wavering water holds the figure in a fragile calm.

This work is about choosing to step forward even when the horizon feels endless. It speaks to solitude not as loneliness, but as a space where we meet ourselves honestly. Cherry Waves is a meditation on courage, stillness, and the quiet moments that change us.

Artist Bio

Shane Bonsujet is a visual artist based and working out of his studio in Melbourne.

Shanes art often draws on lived experiences and memories that explore themes of psychology, growth, empowerment and discovery forming a deep connection with viewers.

Emotive, expressive, intuitive and playful, Shane's paintings are inspired by many influences such as the natural world, existentialism and philosophy that create a balance and duality between depth in concept and naïve appearance. Bold colours and expressive brushwork create an open dancefloor for curious mark making, naïve characters, patterns, symbols and motifs that balance abstraction and various other styles and references.

Shanes paintings are held in public and private collections all over the country and internationally, and has been a finalist in various notable art prizes and exhibited in several exhibitions, group shows and art fairs.
