Artwork Description

This work plays on 2 concepts. The first and obvious being the type of art of still life and interpreting the literal words of “still life”. The second being that given the little resources, tools, space and support, on paper I well and truly should have failed by now or at the very least given up. With limited space and resources, and being told time n time again I wouldn’t suit a commercial space or audience and after countless rejections I’ve not given in or up. Ive pushed on and persisted with what I love and from time to time am seeing the fruits of my labor, which ties in to the whole idea. I often feel like the little engine that could as I reflect on the times I had to paint in parks as I had nowhere else to paint and had to use a good friends house to store my paintings and create works. If you were kind enough to read my bio I mentioned how I have recycled old framed paintings from op shops and even painted on found items of hard rubbish and this was all part of the struggle I had to go through to keep my practice alive. I’m sure a lot of artists can relate.

Artist Bio

Shane Bonsujet is a visual artist based and working out of his studio in Melbourne.

Shanes art often draws on lived experiences and memories that explore themes of psychology, growth, empowerment and discovery forming a deep connection with viewers.

Emotive, expressive, intuitive and playful, Shane's paintings are inspired by many influences such as the natural world, existentialism and philosophy that create a balance and duality between depth in concept and naïve appearance. Bold colours and expressive brushwork create an open dancefloor for curious mark making, naïve characters, patterns, symbols and motifs that balance abstraction and various other styles and references.

Shanes paintings are held in public and private collections all over the country and internationally, and has been a finalist in various notable art prizes and exhibited in several exhibitions, group shows and art fairs.
