Artwork Description

Large work on unstretched canvas, can be stretched/framed with blue thumb framing partner or your local framer.

Together depicts a group of figures sharing the same space, yet each standing in quiet solitude. Set beneath a vast night sky, the painting holds a sense of stillness — a moment where people are physically near one another, but emotionally self-contained. The distance between the figures is as important as their presence, suggesting that togetherness does not always mean closeness, conversation, or touch.

I use simplified forms and flat, bold colour to strip the scene back to its emotional core. Faces are absent, allowing the figures to become stand-ins for anyone — or everyone. Their individuality comes through in posture and colour rather than detail, reflecting how we remain separate even when we gather, each carrying our own inner world.

The landscape and sky act as a shared backdrop, grounding the figures in the same moment, the same night, the same quiet. There’s a sense of calm here, but also reflection — the kind of togetherness that exists without noise, where connection is implied rather than declared.

Together is about being alongside others without needing resolution. It acknowledges the beauty and complexity of shared space — how we can belong, observe, and coexist, even while standing alone.

Artist Bio

Shane Bonsujet is a visual artist based and working out of his studio in Melbourne.

Shanes art often draws on lived experiences and memories that explore themes of psychology, growth, empowerment and discovery forming a deep connection with viewers.

Emotive, expressive, intuitive and playful, Shane's paintings are inspired by many influences such as the natural world, existentialism and philosophy that create a balance and duality between depth in concept and naïve appearance. Bold colours and expressive brushwork create an open dancefloor for curious mark making, naïve characters, patterns, symbols and motifs that balance abstraction and various other styles and references.

Shanes paintings are held in public and private collections all over the country and internationally, and has been a finalist in various notable art prizes and exhibited in several exhibitions, group shows and art fairs.
