Artwork Description

Double Scoop
97 × 117 cm
Acrylic, charcoal, pastel, oil stick, spray paint and graphite on raw canvas
A memory of simpler times.
Double Scoop drifts back toward endless sunny days by the beach with our friends — lining up at the ice cream van for soft serve, our favourite song playing on the radio, and colour everywhere.
Built slowly through instinct, interruption and restraint, soft fields of colour move across the raw canvas surface — layered, erased and reworked until only the essential remained.
Playful yet quiet, the work balances atmosphere with disruption, carrying a sense of nostalgia, warmth and openness.
This artwork is painted on raw, unframed premium 12oz canvas, and will be shipped rolled for safety unless stretching and framing is selected at checkout.

Artist Bio

Shannon Riches is an abstract expressionist artist based on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. With a 30-year background in graphic design and illustration, his work now centres on intuitive mark-making and tonal exploration inspired by the coastline and the Dandenong Ranges.
His process is tactile and instinctive — often painting with his hands, bark and found natural materials alongside traditional brushes to build layered, organic surfaces. Shannon also produces music under the name Approaching Black, and sees both practices as expressions of the same language — composition, tone and atmosphere.
His paintings are created to feel lived-in and emotionally grounded — artworks that belong in real spaces, quietly shaping the story of the room.
