Artwork Description

Echoes of a Memory
150 × 110 cm

Acrylic, oil stick, graphite, pencil, pastel and spray paint on 12oz raw canvas.

Echoes of a Memory is built in layers and fragments, painted, erased, refined, lost and found again.

Like memory itself, not everything remains intact.

Some marks linger.
Others fade.
Traces emerge through the surface before dissolving back into the canvas.

This piece explores what remains after the moment has passed, impressions of light, place, feeling and time.

Not a memory recalled in full, but its echo.

A tune that endures.
A stroke that remembers.

The beauty of what remains.

Artwork will be shipped rolled in a protective tube, the preferred method for large-scale original artworks, unless stretching or framing is selected at checkout.

Artist Bio

Shannon Riches is an abstract expressionist artist based on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. With a 30-year background in graphic design and illustration, his work now centres on intuitive mark-making and tonal exploration inspired by the coastline and the Dandenong Ranges.
His process is tactile and instinctive — often painting with his hands, bark and found natural materials alongside traditional brushes to build layered, organic surfaces. Shannon also produces music under the name Approaching Black, and sees both practices as expressions of the same language — composition, tone and atmosphere.
His paintings are created to feel lived-in and emotionally grounded — artworks that belong in real spaces, quietly shaping the story of the room.
