Artwork Description

Our built environment contains many accidental design surprises. For this painting I was inspired by intersecting cracks in the concrete with gouged-out chips and tiny patches of lichen forming jewell-like necklaces in between - reminiscent of a river delta. . A white, painted, angled mark contrasts the dance-like composition. City greys can be pulsing and dynamic too...

Artist Bio

Urban, abstract artist.
My passion is to explore the colours, patterns and textures of city environments. What are the emotional effects of the built surrounds on us?
I work with oils and industrial mixed media, on canvas.
So, for added authenticity, I like to mix gritty construction materials directly into the paint itself, including discarded items and everyday familiar fragments of our lives - as visual jolts and surprises.
To take a deep, close-up look at the traces of our humanity, within the dense urban overlay - to re-discover what resonates.
To seek-out unusual compositions. To incorporate found designs. To discover & share a ‘new music’ exuding from the pavements and plate glass windows, the cracks & peeling paint - recognisable things we so often pass by unnoticed. A deeper take into making sense of how all the parts fit together.
Diving into the 'beauty & the trauma' of it all!
