Breakfast At The Pink Cliffs

This abstract impressionist scene captures a very busy magpie family during my recent visit to the Pink Cliffs at Heathcote in country Victoria near Bendigo. The Pink Cliffs Geological Reserve is a remarkable area on the edge of Heathcote. Once a hydraulic sluicing site, mining activity in the late 19th century using high pressure water washed away the top layer of earth and revealed the dramatic, colourful cliffs on display today. Standing around the viewing paths, you can easily conjure up images of the noise, excitement and hope generated by thousands of gold prospectors that once trod these grounds.

The cliffs sit dramatically and colourfully below and in front of an Australian bush backdrop typical of the region. Magpies are abundant and, as always, fascinating characters to observe.

This painting combines acrylics and oils and continues around all sides so no need to frame unless desired. It will bring the beauty of nature and a sense of connection into any setting.
