Artwork Description

This painting was inspired by a sunset walk along the Noosa National Park track to a beautiful place called ‘Tea Tree Bay’. It is a sheltered bay filled with glorious rocks, turquoise waters and gentle breaking waves.
All senses are awakened along this track with the smell of Eucalyptus Gum trees and the sounds of birds and crashing waves. There is a chance of spotting whales, dolphins, turtles, koalas and of course, a surfer or two. It would be hard to venture here and not have your heart filled with gratitude.

I painted this piece loosely from a photo I took, While sitting on the rocks, I noticed a lone surfer coming in from her ‘last wave’. I used an impressionist style and added a few waves and colours from my imagination. I used oil paints with a palette knife, blending and fan brushes.
The orange sunset is reflected in the silvery blue ocean. The sienna and ochre rocks provide a contrast against the pale ocean and blue and orange sky.

Much love and gratitude was put into this painting and it will provoke a feeling of peace and calmness to any room.

It is signed on the front, back and has a certificate of authenticity, with 4 cm painted edges, varnished and is ready to hang.

Artist Bio

Shauna Jenkins is a painter residing in Noosa Heads, Queensland. She primarily paints seascapes using oils on stretched canvas. Her current style varies from realism to impressionist and semi abstract. Shauna creates her paintings from colour visions and emotions, as well as from gaining inspiration from her surrounding local beaches and rivers. From stormy skies and crashing waves to sunsets over calm seas, her seascapes capture the beauty, mystery and tranquility of the ocean. Light and colour reflections are the central focus of Shauna's paintings. She uses a mixture of textures, layers, palette knife, sponge and blending brushwork techniques

Shauna grew up in Geelong, near The Great Ocean Road, Victoria. She has always had a deep connection and feeling towards nature, noticing beauty and colour in her surroundings. The passion in her paintings stems from fond childhood memories of days spent at the beach with her family. Shauna spent much of her childhood expressing her love of nature through drawings and paintings. She experienced a great sadness as a child with the loss of her mother and is grateful to have always had art as an outlet for her emotions.

Shauna majored in art and children’s literature during her teaching degree at Deakin University in Melbourne. She became a teacher-librarian for many years, where she could share her love of children’s literature, creative writing and illustration. After moving to Noosa in 2013, with her husband, Anthony and their two boys, Shauna taught creative writing and art classes. Her passion to start painting again began to emerge from being immersed in her beautiful surroundings. In 2022, Shauna and Anthony undertook a new venture, managing a holiday resort on the Noosa River, where they currently reside - a perfect place for inspiration for her paintings.

Shauna now spends her free time painting from her home studio. Her skill and passion have grown with experimentation, patience and determination. Her canvas paintings flow freely in an uninterrupted, intuitive manner. Painting has become an essential part of Shauna's life and brings her passion, purpose and joy. Shauna hopes to share the beauty and magic of nature with others to help calm or brighten their home or work spaces.

Shauna currently has paintings on exhibit at the following local Art Galleries:
The Cooroy Butter Factory and
Yandina Art Gallery

Shauna has completed many privately commissioned paintings.
