Turquoise Teine Ed. 1 of 50

This is a piece inspired by the bright patterned fabrics found in Samoa. It's called the Turquoise Teine, teine means woman in Samoan.

Both of my grandmothers were seamstresses at different points of their lives. While creating this piece i found myself reminiscing of learning to screen print and stamp on different designs onto fabric when I was younger, in Samoa.

It's a design that embraces a part of Samoa that I love and I feel compelled to share my knowledge, good memories and traditional practices of my culture. It's a fact that Samoans only make up 1% of the world's population which is why it's important to me to share and share and share. This fact made me realise we are a minority and it will only better our community to share our practices through art.

I am Shay Tagaloa an American Samoan born artist who is self taught. I have always been interest in the arts, I have created since I was a child. I love to represent my heritage, culture and love of my roots through the art work I create.
I work with many mediums, acrylic paint being my main and digital work aswell.
