Artwork Description

Landscape, drawing and painting this unusual black mountain, it went for miles while travelling … called Black Mountain near Cooktown Qld. It has a back story that my Aboriginal friend sent me:

Sheila Whittam … it's a Story Place of the kuku Yalangjii people south of Cooktown ❤️👍 lovely place there's another mountain very similar in the Cape Melville National Park n another down near the Atherton Table lands.

This work is unframed and is on heavy gesso art paper.

Artist Bio

Sheila Whittam is an Adelaide Hills artist, originally from Britain. She has had a long art career having had more than 20 solo exhibition in SA and Vict. She has a BA in visual arts from ACSA. As a tutor she designed a creative art course-which contributed to community wellbeing. She has been included in three finalist major art shows in recent times including the Kennedy art prize 2022, she also won a SALA award. Is confidently experimental in her approach to art making- using mixed media - oils cold wax , monotypes and encaustics. Her most recent works have translucent multiple layering and moving into contemporary ideas and abstraction.
