Artwork Description

This mixed media piece reflects the spirit of dance in floral form. I was inspired by a lily in a vase, dancing in the wind, as though she had come to life in the form of a human. This is part of a set of two. See the adjacent work in my gallery, ‘salsa’, for her partner-in-dance companion. They are made to dance side-by-side on your wall.

FRAMING. This work is professionally framed in Tasmanian oak, finished in beeswax. The artwork itself floats over a natural linen-covered backing and is protected with premium art glass. Art glass is a non-reflective, museum-quality glass that provides crystal-clear visibility while protecting the work and allowing the colours and details to be seen without glare. This is a custom, one-off frame and the work is ready to display. Styled images may show a different frame for presentation purposes only.

Artist Bio

BEYOND THE SEE

I paint images that sit somewhere between realism and dreams. I’m influenced by memory, mythology and the magical realist tradition.

Early in my career, I worked as a newspaper photographer and journalist. I inherited from that experience a tendency to crop in hard and look for strong, immediate compositions.

Long periods of travel and immersion in other cultures, particularly in Latin America, opened up for me different ways of experiencing and understanding reality.

The work of Henri Rousseau and Frida Kahlo is among my influences. What draws me to their work is a way of seeing and feeling beyond the surface — allowing imagination, feeling, symbolism and sensuality to coexist with the observed world.
