Shirley Peters is a multi-skilled artist who is currently painting landscapes. She paints plein-air in the country, using her motorhome to travel from beach to river to mountains.
At home she makes 'slow art' in her studio by painting large detailed works inspired by her travels; Peters is known and collected for her daily watercolours of the Tour de France bike races.
Since 2014 Shirley has lived and worked in Mulgoa, prior to that, 37 years in Putney, near Sydney. She is internationally known for painting cyclists during Le Tour de France, and has been featured on SBS TV for her daily output.
She also paints urban scenes and figurative works. Peters has won awards consistently throughout her career, which began at the National Art School in the seventies. Her career spans graphic design, children’s book illustration, and computer graphics. Her fine art painting is now a full time passion, and her teaching skills were sought after by many art societies and organisations.
Now retired from teaching, Shirley makes YouTube videos. These have replaced workshops. Over 30 “learn to paint” tutorials are available free on YouTube.
