Artwork Description

Batik landscape imagines a pre colonial landscape where the Toraja tribe of Sulawesi are living harmoniously with nature. In a dream the Dutch arrive by ship are the tribe go into hiding & this interaction of vastly different cultures occurs. The painting aims to depict the life that Indigenous tribes enjoy, where the learning about nature and human habitation is recognised as important for our ecological knowledge, now that we face the question about how to correct the damage to the environment.
