Titled 'yawning_sunset', it belongs to the 'neon_ghetto_flux' collection of works. It's a dive into the artist's subconscious. It symbolises human actions done without thought or spontaneity; automatic. The artwork draw attention to the consumption of our own human energy in modern today. The repetitive cycle of our daily life which wears down the individual person and spirt, to the point of automatic, mechanical, lifeless.
The 'neon_ghetto_flux' collection is notable for his use of flat planes and overlays of bright colour. The artist's artistic practice is expansive β symbols and interests come from deeper impulses. For instance, Simon's use of 'the dazed eye' in his work 'yawning_sunset' can symbolise one's present deterioration in society and/or one's low spirit.
"I lived in Japan for many years. I saw humanity becoming something else β tired, worn out, deprived, over worked, removed, sexual loss, robotic, boxed. Our hopes, from a time when we were younger, are slowly stripping away, and replaced with quick fixes, failing societies, and the list goes on. 'yawing_sunset' shows the lethargy within."
