A work from the Nostalgia on Demand series, investigating various types of nostalgia. With a focus on the vicarious nostalgia trends in advertising, Sioux shared her insights through digital compositions, painting, mixed media and installation.

Delving into the visceral power music holds in tying us to the past, the multi-disciplinary artist created a complementary soundtrack. Sioux drew upon retro arcade game music and disposable 80s pop for the upbeat, catchy tunes.

The creative process initiated reminisces of her own artistic output since childhood, triggering Sioux to revisit the lowbrow artistic style she enjoyed early in her artistic career. Her fixation with monsters was also reignited, eliciting the conjuring of unworldly characters.

Thanks to digital culture and the digital cataloguing of past eras, vicarious nostalgia is a particularly successful way of persuading people to spend their money. Nostalgia is also playing an important role in wellbeing during COVID times as it allows people to escape from the present. Transcending creative disciplines Sioux Tempestt creates abstract, mural, sculptural and digital art. Traversing across different mediums and scale of works enables Sioux to push creative boundaries. Through materiality and physicality, her expressive abstractions intuitively fuse colour and form. Her work aims to create a narrative and connection as Sioux believes art plays an intrinsic contribution to our wellbeing, health, and happiness.

Sioux’s studio-based practice explores paint and mixed media works on canvas and board; digital and photographic compositions; poetry and writing; video; sound and music. Working across other mediums such as metal, acrylic, wood and recycled materials Sioux creates 3D permanent and ephemeral sculptural public artworks. Large scale murals also form part of Sioux’s practice with over 50 painted throughout Perth.

Sioux has delivered 11 solo exhibitions and exhibited in numerous group shows. Recent achievements include Finalist, Mid West Art Prize 2023; Finalist, Town of Claremont Art Prize 2023; and Finalist, City of Stirling Art Award 2023.
