SKYE ELIZABETH/ART SIDE OF THE MOON – ARTISTS STATEMENT
my mess became my message !!
Art for me is a means to create discourse and promote awareness surrounding issues close to my heart drawn from my compassion towards others and personal experience with mental health and domestic violence, art practise has been a place of personal healing and gives me a voice and purpose.
I produce concepts that my audience can relate to this is prevalent in my series the lonely chairs, a
series that’s been in the works for the last three years whilst I have been raising my 3 year old son on my journey through single parenthood, each chair found abandoned and created into something beautiful, beauty in the broken ,a sense of recreating oneself
my works reflect a well thought out practise of abstract imagery that is consistent of a contemporary approach to impressionism .I’m fascinated by concepts that push the boundaries, bold and complementary colour schemes and depths . my somewhat misplaced use of colour conveys a sense of nonconformity, my mismatching nature is very intentional and I’m mindful to create beauty in my unconventional approach . Influenced by Frida Kahlo and the great impressionists Renoir and Degas my works reflect influences of Kahlo’s confronting yet popular imagery that boast bright bold colour themes. my brushstrokes, use of
line and form to create expressive imagery reflects an influence of impressionism. Im blessed to live on the coast of Australia my backyard is the lake and the beautiful bushland this inspires my subject matter. my work leaves space for my audience to interpret their own thoughts and feelings and encourages viewers to come on a journey with me through my body of work . Light at the
end of the tunnel, faces amidst the branches put my audience in a connected energy between artists
and viewer this is one of my greatest joys with art practise .
my obsession with eradicating stigma and helping others, deep emotions and personal relationships I
have with my art practise can be understood and felt by others enabling me to reflect on the challenges
that have shaped me as a person I hope you enjoy my body of work and I’ll see you on the ART side of the moon
