Artwork Description

The sweet lines of the Canberra Blue Eucalypt lean out, as if to almost try and reach you from their vessel below. From a tree that goes by many names – cinerea, mealy stringybark and Argyle apple – the small branches have been collected with care and brought inside to fill the room with silvery-blue foliage and hints of blush.

Canberra Blue II pairs beautifully with all of the works from the Gathering Eucalypt collection, sharing in their palette. Together with her sister work, Canberra Blue Still II they create a surrounding bushscape that fills your space with a serene feel that calms the senses.

Artist Bio

Smith & Brooks is a collaboration between friends and artists, Kerrin Smith and Jacky Brooks.

‘As lovers of art, lovers of painting, lovers of printing, lovers of canvas, lovers of fine art paper we just needed to create. The feeling of filling a space with a beautiful image is something that drives us both. We collaborate on our colour palettes, themes and compositions. We work out our subject matter based on how it will translate to different mediums. Our works are then created by hand with acrylic paints, brushes and other mixed media.’

Kerrin and Jacky share very similar career backgrounds, having both worked in the videography and photographic industries, as fine art printers and as photo and video editors. Kerrin has a Bachelor of Visual Arts and Jacky has a Bachelor of Digital Arts, which creates a wonderful ‘opposites attract’ dynamic in their work. They both reside on properties in the city/country fringe of Brisbane and draw a lot of their inspiration from their own bushland backyards.
