Mixed media on cradled wooden panel, 8x8 inches. Acrylics made from raw pigment, ink and charcoal. Sage and olive greens sit against soft warm neutrals, anchored by dense charcoal-black passages at lower left. Layered, weathered surface built through repeated washes and drying stages. Part of the Alpha Series, an ongoing exploration of wabi-sabi aesthetics and restrained mark-making.

I'm a Brisbane-based painter working in oil, acrylic, and mixed media. I trained and worked as an engineer before turning to painting full-time in 2012, and in 2024 my practice shifted from representation to abstraction — treating paint as its own subject, where surface and gesture carry what image once conveyed.
My recent work builds in layers — acrylic, charcoal, ink, and oil pastel — on cradled wooden panels and stretched canvas. I work with a restrained palette, and I like a piece to hold the evidence of how it was made: scraped, reworked surfaces that reward slow looking rather than a single glance.
