Artwork Description

"Fortress"

The rocky mountains of Palawan, in the Philippines, are an impressive set of limestone formations that have remained resilient despite erosion from water.

These mountains feature dramatic cliffs and lush vegetation, creating a unique landscape. Their resistance to wear is due to the hardness of the rock and the geological processes that formed them.

A fortress that, despite the passage of time and climatic adversities, remains steadfast. The vertical cuts that characterize it enhance a visual reading that moves from the base to the sky, representing growth and streght. In contrast, the ocean has a horizontal reading, generating a sense of calm and stability.

Although the landscape is dominated by cool colors, the elements within it manage to create warmth, all in perfect balance and harmony.

### Sofia Eckholt (1997)
Originally from Santiago, Chile, Sofia Eckholt is an emerging abstract artist now based in Byron Bay, Australia. She holds a degree in Graphic Design from Universidad del Desarrollo, where she developed her foundational understanding of color, composition, and visual storytelling.

Sofia’s artistic journey began early, fueled by a fascination with textures, washes, and the expressive potential of color. She draws inspiration from the dynamic brushwork of Claude Monet, the bold energy of Jackson Pollock, and the boundary-pushing philosophy of Dadaism. Her works channel emotional intensity through spontaneous gestures, creating a unique interplay of movement and energy.

Her multicultural background and global experiences are key to her artistry. Exhibiting across Latin America and Europe, she has gained recognition in events such as ArtStgo (Chile), ArtFair Luxembourg, and Monaco’s Contemporary Art Fair. Her participation in prestigious showcases like the V Biennial of Contemporary Art in Buenos Aires and *Artmosphere Magazine* (present in Art Dubai and Zykka Art Festival) reflects her growing international footprint.

Since relocating to Byron Bay, Sofia has been inspired by Australia’s natural beauty, particularly its vibrant coastal landscapes. Her latest series, *Horizonte*, incorporates vivid blues and greens, drawing from the interplay of oceanic tones and earthy textures found in magical places like Maui, Bali, and her new Australian home.

As an artist, Sofia celebrates her Latin American roots while embracing the creativity and diversity of her new surroundings. Through her work, she invites viewers to experience the emotional depth and energy that define her artistic voice.
