Artwork Description

Inspired by a deep and enduring love of the natural world of Northern California — and birthed from the countless impressions gathered during a three-month pilgrimage along the wild, rugged, and soul-stirring coastline of the West Coast of the USA.

This artwork serves as a devotional ode to life’s great web of interconnectedness.
Each stitch is an act of reverence, honouring the landscapes that held me: the towering redwoods, hummingbird-visited flower fields, the monarch migration paths, wind-etched cliff faces and the fertile mystery that surrounded me.

In this piece, I seek to give form to the beauty and gratitude held in my heart for this journey and what it gave to me, reminding us that we are not separate from nature, but an intricate part of her unfolding story.

Artist Bio

Sophie is a textile artist whose work is deeply rooted in the rhythms and beauty of the natural world. Working primarily with wool, she transforms raw, organic fibres into tactile artworks that celebrate the textures, colours, and forms found in nature.

Her creative process begins with the many natural inspired experiences and connections she's had—whether it’s the animals she's spent time with in nature, the deep silence she cultivates with the other, or the intricate patterns that mother nature provides. Through techniques such as punchneedling, weaving, and hand-stitching, she captures these impressions in pieces that invite touch as much as they invite contemplation.

Grounded in a deep respect for sustainable making, Sophie sources her materials ethically, often working with locally grown or naturally dyed fibres. Each piece becomes both an artistic expression and a quiet homage to the landscapes that inspire her.

When not in her studio, she can often be found exploring wild places, gathering both materials and ideas for her next creation.
