Artwork Description

Drought relief.

My studio is in Uralla in New South Wales and at the moment we are experiencing the worst drought in living memory. Coupled with this, the region has just been ravaged by horrendous bushfires. Hard times for so many. This series of seascapes was like therapy for me! They provided an escape - albeit in my head - from the dust at the fires and the brown and the burnt. It felt so good to work in blue, teal, aqua and green!

The brush strokes are loose and full of energy in an attempt to capture the power and movement of the ocean. The original reference for the painting came from sketches I made in Rottness island, WA.

Artist Bio

On completion of a History of art degree in the UK, I began to travel. The natural world has always been my greatest inspiration and a passion for painting wildlife resulted in many years on the road. I have recently settled in the beautiful New England region of New South Wales in Australia. It is this rural landscape, with its abundant wildlife that inspires my current body of work. I work in a number of medium, as dictated by my subject - painting , drawing, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, even tattoo.

Creativity in whatever guise dominates every aspect of my life, and the challenge to become the artist I want to be is constant. I think creating art is a lifelong journey, not a destination. On the top of my easel is a piece of paper that reads "just keep working - because you're one thing until you're something else."
