Sowon Park is an emerging multimedia artist and a painter based in Australia. Her works can be summed up as intuitive, colourful and gestural abstract art.
Sowon’s first foray commenced whilst she was in Tasmania and this cumulated in an art series entitled “Tassie Waters” featuring 15 pieces of acrylic and gold on canvas pieces reminiscent of the powerful yet peaceful waters off the coast of Tasmania.
Having now moved to Melbourne, Victoria, Sowon’s repertoire has expanded to attempt to capture various effervescent emotions in life in all its colourful glory on a still canvas. Her studio practice can be summed up as a repeated application of colour onto surface in an intuitive, spontaneous and gestural manner. Moving and revolving around the canvas in her studio, Sowon applies layer upon layer of acrylic, gouache and oil paint using a range of applicators, some traditional and some unconventional, leading to interesting yet contrasting works such as the “Bloom” series, “Brave Heart” and the “Confetti Shower Series”.
In essence, the once blank canvas tries to capture various snapshots of Sowon’s perpetual motion whilst creating the art in a moment.
