"A Quiet Awaitng"

As an Artist I find it hard to put my work into a category.
Taken from ready-made situations, that I found and photographed one day. It was just right for something that I had imagined in my minds eye. Something like a Still-life but not...
Some artists that have influenced me are... William T Wiley, Pierre Bonnard, Surrealism and many more.
I do not think about other artist when I paint, I just paint and eventually I create something.

Stefan Twaine-Wood was born in Bendigo, Victoria.
From around the age of 4 his father would take the family to the Bendigo Art Gallery a couple of times a year, which later had an influence on him.
On moving to Adelaide in 1964 he had taken an interest in painting and drawing. Stefan didn’t settle too well on the move to Adelaide. Drawing and water colouring were of some help.
Stefan didn’t realize he was Dyslexic and Teachers would often encourage him to express himself visually.
In secondary school Stefan’s Maths Teacher commissioned him to do a Painting. This encouraged him to believe he was on the way to an Artistic Career path.
In 1975-1978 he attended South Australian School of Art undertaking a Diploma in Fine Arts.In 1979 he was invited to join Roundspace Studios collective. In 1985 he joined Central Studios. He was also involved in establishing an Artist run gallery called Art Zone. Throughout these years he prepared for regular Exhibitions of paintings and pastels.
In 1986 he was offered the opportunity to design and co-ordinate the painting of the Jubilee Year Mural of the History of Tea Tree Gully Area, in South Australia. The following year he undertook the Adelaide Airport Mural of The Smith Brother's Vickers-Vim.
Stefan moved to Melbourne in 2002 and has continued his Art Practice, but found a need to find other employment. 2005 to 2007 he was a member of Studio 106 in Barkly Street, St Kilda. Now he works in small room at home and still managers to create a few paintings a year.
