Stella Peterson is an artist / designer currently living and working in Adelaide, South Australia. She has formal training in Advertising / Graphic Design, and recently, Interior design and decoration. Throughout her working life she has undertaken select visual arts studies at both North Adelaide School of Art (NASA) and Adelaide Central School of Art (ACSA). She also practised figure drawing for 2 years at Adelaide Art Society.
Art has been a constant in Stella’s life. She views the world through a designer’s eyes, and is forever inspired by the beauty of the built and natural environment. Her colour and design sensibilities guide every creative decision she makes.
Transitioning from years of digital design at a computer, Stella felt compelled to return to traditional media. She has been painting acrylic abstracts since late 2021. Self-taught, her aim is to create abstract paintings that are contemplative and evocative.
Very much influenced by her training in watercolours, her works are often created in fluid layers, exploring transparency / opacity, dark and light, and the merging of colours. It is the unpredictable results of this water-play that really interest Stella. Her most satisfying works are often organic in nature, with a gentle, atmospheric drama. Stella’s joy is in experimenting with movement and colour. Her work is intuitive, derived from her internal thoughts and feelings.
Although at the beginning of her painting journey, Stella is excited by the endless possibilities of abstract art. With each new painting, she gains a little more knowledge and courage in her approach, as well as an insight into her authentic self as an artist.
