Artwork Description

Acrylic on canvas - 63cm x 78cm x 5cm (including frame). Framed in Victorian Ash.

Painted mid-2020, this artwork is based on a photo I took at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Melbourne a few years prior. It was painted at a time when leisurely strolls in public places were merely a fantasy, and I was greatly missing the outside world spending time going on adventures in the city. This artwork reminds me how beautiful nature is, especially those places where everyone can go to enjoy it.

This is an original artwork on canvas, the edges are painted pale blue. It is finished with gloss varnish to enhance and protect the work. It is framed in Victorian Ash, and has wire across the back and is ready to hang.

Please note that this artwork contains fluorescent colours which are not lightfast - it is protected with a UV varnish however to best protect your artwork it needs to be kept out of direct sunlight. The colours will remain however the fluorescent element to them may fade over time.

Artist Bio

About
Stephanie Prole is a New Zealand born artist, living in the Western suburbs of Naarm (Melbourne), Australia since 2014. Stephanie is a mostly self-taught artist with a lifelong creative background, particularly as a sewist in her teens and 20s, leading onto study in Fashion Design in 2008. Painting was always a secret love, however a short course in botanical watercolour in 2016 ignited a spark that could no longer be ignored and Stephanie decided to pursue her passion for painting by offering custom bouquet portraits. A curiosity for creating bolder, larger artworks led to a change in medium and Stephanie began painting with acrylics in 2018. Since then, she has has continued to develop her style by experimenting with abstracts, landscapes, and has since come full circle to land in a bed of boldly painted flowers and plants.s

Artist Statement
I create boldly colourful contemporary artworks that draw inspiration from both nature and my suburban surroundings. My botanical artworks are softly detailed, with fresh minimalistic compositions and unconventional colour used to highlight the beauty and whimsy in my natural subjects. I use freehand marks to create loose patterns in honour of my conflicting love of both order and mess.

I am inspired by everything in nature, particularly the beauty of a single flower or branch which are often hidden in the noise of a large garden. Landscapes and abstracts are inspired by memories of growing up in New Zealand, feelings of daydreams, youth, and being immersed in the natural world.
