Peonies and Roses 2018

'Peonies and roses' is the 4th and final painting in the series titled Ephemeral Beauty.
This series is an exploration around the theme of transient beauty.
An attempt to capture both a moment of exuberant beauty - and slow decline.
The work draws upon the influences of the Dutch floral masters
and the foreboding darkness and drama of Caravaggio.

Art and design have always been central to Stephen McKenzie’s life. As a secondary school student he achieved the highest mark in Victoria for graphic design and went on to study design and visual communication at RMIT. After leaving college he had a successful career as an art director in London for 17 years. He currently lives and works by the bay in Melbourne, Australia.
