Beach Hut

This was inspired by a beach hut on a glittering spring day. I imagined a special kind of light coming in the window sparkling with the reflections of the sand and the sea. The worn floorboards and the corner of the room had crisp shadows that seem to complement the sparking light. I thought it would be fun to play with the angles of the floor and the wall, which accounts for the distorted perspective.

I am a still life artist working out of Sydney, Australia. My passion is painting fruit and foliage in oils on canvas. The shapes created from fruit give amazing compositions, with strong, bold shadows, complemented by subtle reflected light and translucency of the flesh. Leaves offer infinite opportunities for divine curves, beautiful organic textures and rich shadows. I love capturing the forms of different kinds of foliage and the incredible shapes they make.

I make art because it helps me understand the world around me better. I paint in oils because I love everything about them: their hues, consistency, smell, texture. All my paintings are double varnished to protect the surface and enrich the colours.
