In this piece I wanted to explore how a familiar object, a red apple, can be made to behave in an unfamiliar way. Cutting a slice of apple is an everyday experience, however a segment detaching itself and moving out from the apple into space is somehow strange and unfamiliar. I'd like to invite the viewer to take another look at the objects we see every day, and marvel at their simple beauty, color, form and texture.
The saturated colors in this piece will stand out on any wall. Seen in person the piece looks three dimensional, lifting off the canvas. It's a fun piece, but also slightly surreal, a good conversation piece.
I hope you enjoy this artwork. I loved painting it.
