The inspiration of this piece was to create a 'visual pun' by placing objects together in a still life scene that wouldn't be possible in real life. The 'Sun' centred inside a frangipani flower gives a warm, candlelit glow to the space, throwing off luscious shadows. The piece plays with sense of proportion and scale, taking our life-giving star and locating it in something beautiful you could hold in your hand.

Artwork Description
Artist Bio
I am a still life artist working out of Sydney, Australia. My passion is painting fruit and foliage in oils on canvas. The shapes created from fruit give amazing compositions, with strong, bold shadows, complemented by subtle reflected light and translucency of the flesh. Leaves offer infinite opportunities for divine curves, beautiful organic textures and rich shadows. I love capturing the forms of different kinds of foliage and the incredible shapes they make.
I make art because it helps me understand the world around me better. I paint in oils because I love everything about them: their hues, consistency, smell, texture. All my paintings are double varnished to protect the surface and enrich the colours. I hope you enjoy my oil paintings, each of which tells a different story about fruit and foliage, and which celebrate the beauty of the natural world and all that is beautiful and satisfying in life.
