Artwork Description

Where Attention Settles presents a contemplative, slightly surreal encounter: a classical female figure pauses above a solitary cloud, her gaze directed downward without judgment or intent. The surrounding world is reduced to a flattened, graphic landscape — an expanse of bright pink stretching toward a distant horizon. Beneath her, a five-pointed yellow star rests like a displaced crown, offering support rather than authority.

The statue’s shadow falls crisply across the ground, anchoring her presence, while reflected pink and yellow light subtly returns onto her form, blurring the boundary between figure and environment. The scene resists narrative resolution, holding instead a quiet tension — between monument and fragility, attention and restraint, care and distance. What matters here is not action, but where the gaze comes to rest.

Artist Bio

I am a still life artist working out of Sydney, Australia. My passion is painting fruit and foliage in oils on canvas. The shapes created from fruit give amazing compositions, with strong, bold shadows, complemented by subtle reflected light and translucency of the flesh. Leaves offer infinite opportunities for divine curves, beautiful organic textures and rich shadows. I love capturing the forms of different kinds of foliage and the incredible shapes they make.

I make art because it helps me understand the world around me better. I paint in oils because I love everything about them: their hues, consistency, smell, texture. All my paintings are double varnished to protect the surface and enrich the colours. I hope you enjoy my oil paintings, each of which tells a different story about fruit and foliage, and which celebrate the beauty of the natural world and all that is beautiful and satisfying in life.
