Artwork Description

The Chapel is the circular heart of the former Darlinghurst Gaol, now the National Art School in Sydney. Designed as the centre of the prison, the chapel stood at the intersection of seven radiating cell blocks, symbolising surveillance, discipline and control. Today, the same convict-built sandstone building is devoted to creativity instead of confinement. Its reflection in a shallow puddle recognises the site’s two lives - the place built to imprison now offering the freedom to develop and create.

I paint streets, landscapes, portraits and other things that capture me.

My artist journey began with an early passion for painting before following a career in television and film where I've created soundtracks for many of Australia's best known television shows and award winning productions. In recent years I've returned to my original love of painting.

I’m drawn to the often overlooked moments of emptiness or disquiet within urban environments and aim to evoke some response or humour through much of my work. I also like to explore at the imbalance, or sometimes tension, between the constructed and natural worlds.
