Distraction

Distraction explores the small ways we shut out the noise around us.
Three Meerkats sit together, each absorbed in their own world - headphones, sunglasses and attitude creating a playful sense of disconnection. The work balances humour with a slightly more reflective idea about distraction, individuality and the way we choose what to engage with.
I wanted the piece to feel contemporary and character- driven, with strong expressions, simple staging and touches of red tying the composition together. The influence comes from my ongoing interest in wildlife painting, but with a looser, more playful approach that gives the animals a distinctly human personality.

I am a semi-professional self taught artist living in Adelaide. I have been creating art for most of my life but have only begun selling art in the past 10 years or so. I am originally from the Isle of Man in the UK , which is where I developed my passion for wildlife and Nature art. After discovering the talents of such artists as Carl Brenders and Robert Bateman I began a life long obsession with rendering fur and texture.
