Artwork Description

I paint to a large digital tablet's blank 'canvas' or surface using an Apple pencil and Procreate software. As a digital painting, this work can be printed on any printable medium of your choice, however I recommend stretched canvas with a floating frame.

Signed and numbered on the front.

Frame options by request

This is simply a puddle. Whenever it rains, the water pools in the avenue where my father lives, alongside the southern end of Chatswood oval, Sydney. The roadway here is uneven so that the left side where you park is slightly higher than the other.

There is no proper drainage, so the puddle forms on the right side. Tall trees overhang the road and cast their drops, forming amazing ripples of geometric beauty in the glare from an overcast sky.

Please note: I am selling my digital paintings as PRINT ONLY. It is a 'print to order' arrangement.

As I do not keep stock ready to ship, please allow up to TEN (10) WORKING DAYS for delivery to you.

I recommend printing my artworks to stretched canvas - however, please let me know if you would prefer they be printed to an alternative material.

For framing, I recommend you use Bluethumb's framing services, your own preferred provider or www.frameshop.com.au

I have listed the size as approximately A0 because in my opinion, my work looks better as large possible for the resolution I work in, which is 7,425 x 5400 px at 300 dpi.

I recommend two sizes of prints for my work, the displayed size of 118.9cm W x 86.5cm H (approx. A0) or the smaller size of 84.1cm x 61.2cm (approx. A1). I use www.frameshop.com.au for the canvas prints.

Frame depth (4.5cm) is provided from the preview at www.frameshop.com.au. I have estimated a framed weight of 7.2 kg for the A0 print, assuming it will be twice the weight of a framed A1 canvas I have at home (framed by Frameshop) which weighs 3.6 kg.

If you are interested in the smaller size (approx. A1) the price will be approx $1,150, to be confirmed with Bluethumb at the time of purchase.

My wife Emma and I love to spend time on the southern promontory of Avalon Beach, Sydney. Usually we gaze out to sea, but if you look straight down to where the cliff face meets the sea, you will notice a rockpool, with swimmers in motion. On one hand, this is simply a puddle. However, I see nature's thaumaturgy in action.

The twin challenge of this piece are depicting the ripples and the transparency of the water, partially revealing the rough and motley surface of the road beneath. The key question for me is, are the circular wavelets expressed by light or the absence of light - put simply, are they black or white?

It would be easy to just walk on by on the way to visit my Dad, and miss this natural interplay of light, water and pattern. But with all the rain we’ve had, observing this little spectacle has become a ritual for me.This peak or ridge in the swell, viewed some distance away from the high southern promontory at Sydney’s Avalon Beach, caught the late morning sun and I was captivated by the sparkles and fleeting brilliance.Waves on sandy beach
