Artwork Description

I was inspired to paint this as it was the first time in my life it had happened to me. I was taking photos of products for a client, so camera on tripod ready.
I have had a rope between two trees for years so possums can venture without my dogs hassling them, so the stage was set for a random event to occur someday.
So back to Kingfisher encounter, I was shooting away at products when suddenly this beautiful Scared Kingfisher lands on the rope swinging and all I needed to do was spin around and focus. Suddenly it disappeared, I thought dam it's gone then it returned with a lizard and click, click I had caught this unique moment which stunned me and knew I had to paint in appreciation of experiencing nature closeup.

Artist Bio

Welcome to my art. Based on the Sunshine Coast, I am drawn to nature and love the majestic colors and light evolving from painting in oil and acrylic created for landscapes and wildlife intricately detailed. "I am an artist and graphic designer with over 30 years of experience as a graphic designer/commercial artist, spanning from painting in oils and acrylic, illustration in pastel, pencil and ink, airbrushing with various paint types on a broad spectrum of projects and of course the digital art required for my trade.

Working from my home studio—where inspiration often lands right outside my window— my art is a deep reflection of place, memory, and Australia’s natural rhythm. My other works include majestic waves, underwater scenes to iconic local Sunshine Coast seascapes and landscapes from my local view of Mudjimba Island to the Glasshouse Mountains." - Stephen Doyle.

My latest body of work focuses on large-scale paintings of native birds to help reveal the detailed textures and tones. These majestic pieces are based on my own wildlife photography, collected over decades and refined into vibrant portraits of feathers, light, and personality. This recent direction marks a new chapter in my creative journey, combining my love of nature with technical precision and rich emotional tone. my work is known for its subtle tonal shifts, tactile color layering, and fine brushwork—often painted at larger-than-life scale to preserve every nuance. I strive to capture not just a scene but a feeling and hope my art invites viewers to pause, reflect, and connect.
