Artwork Description

This picture is a stylised interpretation of my front room looking out at the blue sky. The biomorphic curves of the clouds and the snake plant seem drawn toward the chair, creating a sense of movement through flowing lines, patterned marks, and symbolic forms.

Contemplative in nature, the work explores a stream of consciousness and reflects my insecurities at the time it was created. Influenced by biomorphic and surrealist ideas, it combines organic forms with dreamlike associations to evoke both motion and introspection.

Artist Bio

Steve Miller is a Western Australian artist whose vibrant paintings explore the connection between landscape, memory and perception. Inspired by the distinctive light, colours and atmosphere of Western Australia and beyond, he creates expressive interpretations of coastal environments, buildings, vast landscapes and dramatic sunsets. Influenced by surrealism and symbolic imagery, Miller has developed a distinctive visual language that combines bold colour, organic forms and flowing black line work. His work reflects the idea that our understanding of place is often complicated and dynamic. He captures feelings and experiences through symbols, silhouettes and abstract forms. Black lines connect and define spaces while rhythmic marks introduce movement and energy. Human figures occasionally appear within dreamlike landscapes blurring the boundaries between people and place. Through colour, symbolism and layered meaning, Miller invites viewers to reflect on their relationship with the Australian landscape, its histories, and the stories, emotions and connections it holds.
