Originally from Central London I moved to Australia in my early twenties. I am a Fellow of the Design Institute of Australia, a Graduate of the University of South Australia and the Australian Film, Television & Radio School. My work resides in collections around the World, including, the U.K., France, United States, Australia, China; etc. My studio is in Point Frederick on the Central Coast, near Sydney, NSW. In addition to my career as an Artist, I own and operate an Architectural Design practice.
I relish the challenges that being an artist brings. I am a Romantic and see my Art as an opportunity to put a piece of your life into a work, without knowing where that work will end up, who will see it and what emotional response it bring. I like to try things that may not always work, enjoying the exhilaration when they do. I am fearless and cover a broad scope of subject matter, including Cityscapes, Wilderness paintings, Seascapes, Civil Engineering paintings, Portraits, Life Studies, etc, in my Studio or Plein Air on location in Australia and in many countries around the World.
I am having a great time using Oils (usually brushes and blades), Watercolours, Pen & Wash, Pencil, Inks.....sometimes Pastel, Conte......
I love having water in my paintings. It's hard to do. I don't have a particular way of painting water, but for some reason, it all seems to work out. There is a common theme; sky, water, earth. The three elements of life, with different scales of each one, as well as regarding how much space they are assigned on the canvas. I feel that my trees are being replaced now by interesting built environments, not permanently, it's just it's a journey. So, my trees now are mostly structures. Next year, it could be something completely different....I am sure it will be!
While Salvador Dali was a formative influence, Renoir remains my all time favorite.
