Artwork Description

Inspired by censorship in the world of art, Censor Light is a play on words. Depicting the ever famous statue of David with a special light to censor him. Bringing humour to convey a message is one of my most common themes of my work.

The bright colours in this piece will create conversation all the while adding some joy and vibrancy to your room.

Combining artist quality acrylics with vibrant aerosol, I was able to create some texture balancing against the hard edges of the text and the light beam.

Artist Bio

Steven Joshua is an emerging contemporary artist based in Melbourne, Australia. Steven started painting alongside other absract artists at the Hawthorn Artist Society where he participated in his first group show in 2017. Following on from this he curated a 30 piece solo show in 2018; “Ambivalence”, shown at Marfa Gallery in Abbotsford. Steven further expanded his practice by taking an intensive plein air course, under Dr. Irene Barberis, in Florence in 2018.

In 2022 Steven held his second solo show, “Crossing The Line”, at Gallery 550, Richmond.

His use of colour and texture often create surreal dreamscapes. Soft clouds and bold structure dance together to create a feast for the eyes. Vibrant colours feature often and hot pink has been a consistent theme in his work.

In his latest exhibition Steven responded to the need for some "play" in the world of art. Using satire and referencing religion and high art, Steven's 2023 exhibition "Spielzeit" was a great success.
