Instinctual energy permeates Tyerman’s works. Instantly recognizable, they are characterised by an intense involvement in the materiality of paint and are the outcome of an intimate engagement with the environment. Steve Tyerman is a full-time professional artist living and working in the Hinterland of the Gold Coast.
Tyerman paints the places with which he is most familiar – the landscapes surrounding his Hinterland home, as well as the coastal areas of Queensland and New South Wales. With an intuitive approach and using rich impasto techniques, his works are a synthesis of his visual and emotional experiences, tempered by his keen interest in gardening, wildlife, literature and the natural world.
Steve has been a finalist in many prestigious art prizes including The Tattersalls Landscape Prize, The Brisbane Portrait Prize, The Doug Moran National Portrait Prize (semi-finalist), The Percival, The Bluethumb Art Prize, Stanthorpe Art Prize, Lehtbridge Landscape Prize, The EMSLA and many others. Hi original paintings and Limited Edition Prints are held in private, public and corporate collections worldwide.
He was also included in the book 'A Painted Landscape - Across Australia From Bush to Coast' in 2018, written by Amber Creswell-Bell and published by Thames & Hudson, a tribute to 50 prominent contemporary Australian Landscape Painters.
